Scope: Design and DA for conversion of warehouse space to a range of artist studios

Location: Stanmore, NSW

Nauti Studios is an ongoing project involving the conversion of a large scale warehouse space to multi-disciplinary creative studio spaces. The design consists of largely recycled building materials and aims to maintain the quality of light and openness of space that was found in the existing warehouse space, while creating a comfortable and collaborative environment suitable for a variety of uses. The recycled materials imbue the space with a sense of history, referencing and enhancing the existing qualities found in the space. However, newer materials, such as polycarbonate, remind the users of the current, forward thinking use of the space. The overall effect is a patchwork-quilt aesthetic that reflects the small scale creative and diverse use of the space.

The project was constructed and is run by Natalie Cheney.
